PromptDC keyboard shortcuts
The flagship PromptDC Desktop app for macOS and Windows gives you a single global shortcut (Cmd+Shift+E / Ctrl+Shift+E) that works everywhere: select text in any app, any browser, any IDE, and inside terminal CLIs like Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, and Grok. Desktop also lets you assign dedicated global shortcuts to each profile (such as the Code profile or Email profile). For browser-only or in-editor workflows, optional Chrome and IDE extensions provide dedicated shortcuts.

Use the desktop shortcut
01
Confirm PromptDC Desktop is running
Look for PromptDC in the macOS menu bar or Windows notification tray. If it is not running, open PromptDC from Applications or the Start menu and sign in.02
Select text in ANY application, browser, IDE, or terminal
Highlight text anywhere: Safari, Chrome, Slack, Notion, Word, Claude Desktop, Cursor, or terminal CLIs (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy). The general shortcut uses the default profile configured for that app (e.g. Code for Cursor and terminals).03
Press the default binding
Press Command+Shift+E on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows. An editable review popover appears with the enhanced prompt. (In terminals, PromptDC captures prompt text and opens the review popover without executing the command).04
Review, Replace, or Copy
Review the enhanced prompt in the popover. Click Replace to insert the text directly into the source app or terminal prompt, or Copy to place it on your clipboard. On macOS, ensure Accessibility permission is enabled.
Command+Shift+U on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+U on Windows toggles the PromptDC panel. Both the panel toggle and general Enhance shortcuts are fully configurable in Settings under Shortcuts.
Change Chrome and editor shortcuts
Change Chrome shortcuts
- Enter
chrome://extensions/shortcutsin Chrome's address bar. You should see the Keyboard shortcuts page. - Find PromptDC. You should see Enhance the focused text field and Open the PromptDC side panel.
- Click the pencil for a command and press an unused combination. Chrome displays the saved binding beside the command.
- Focus an editable field and test Enhance. You should see the result popup. The Chrome extension provides in-place rewriting for web fields without requiring Accessibility permissions.
The manifest assigns Command+Shift+Space on macOS and Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows and Linux by default. The side-panel command starts unassigned.
Change editor shortcuts
- Open Keyboard Shortcuts in VS Code or Cursor. You should see the editor's searchable shortcut list.
- Search for
PromptDC. You should see Enhance Prompt, Enhance Prompt (Simple), and Enhance Prompt (Structured). - Edit a command and press the desired combination. The editor shows conflicts beside the binding when another command uses it.
- Focus the editor's AI chat panel and test the binding. The extension targets the AI chat panel with structured agent outputs. (The PromptDC Desktop app already covers the entire editor and terminal globally).
Resolve conflicts methodically
The desktop shortcut is saved but silent
Chrome does not show the expected binding
The editor shortcut works outside a terminal
The wrong text is enhanced
Give each profile its own desktop shortcut
On PromptDC Desktop (macOS and Windows), in addition to the general Enhance binding (Cmd+Shift+E / Ctrl+Shift+E), you can assign a dedicated global shortcut to each profile in Settings under Shortcuts.
Pressing a profile's shortcut enhances the current selection in any app or terminal CLI directly with that profile (such as the Code profile, Email profile, or Grammar profile), without needing to open the profile picker or change your app defaults.
Custom profile shortcuts persist across restarts and are automatically cleaned up if a custom profile is deleted. If another application already claims a key combination, PromptDC skips it to avoid system conflicts.
Per-profile shortcuts are a desktop app flagship feature. The Chrome extension uses a single shortcut with profile selection via the toolbar caret or per-website rules, while IDE extensions provide single-binding AI chat enhancement.
Shortcut scope and profiles
The PromptDC Desktop app is the all-in-one setup: one install and shortcut (Cmd+Shift+E / Ctrl+Shift+E) enhances text across every application, browser, IDE, and terminal CLI on macOS and Windows, with support for per-app defaults and dedicated per-profile hotkeys.
The Chrome extension adds in-place rewriting for web textareas without Accessibility permissions, and IDE extensions (VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf) provide sidebar target-agent picking and Simple/Structured output formatting in editor AI chat panels.
See Enhancing text for the complete result workflow and Profiles for automatic selection.
