Enhance prompts in the terminal
PromptDC Desktop for macOS and Windows is the first desktop app to enhance prompts inside terminal CLIs. Select draft prompt text in any standalone terminal or integrated IDE terminal, press Cmd+Shift+E (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+E (Windows), and review the result in the editable popover. PromptDC uses tailored targets for Claude Code, Codex CLI, and Gemini CLI, and generic coding targets for Grok, Agy (Antigravity CLI), and OpenCode on Windows.

Start by selecting existing prompt text
PromptDC Desktop works across every application on macOS and Windows without intercepting background keystrokes. In your terminal, highlight the draft prompt in the input line, then press Cmd+Shift+E on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows.

Select the existing prompt
Highlight the draft prompt text in the terminal. PromptDC does not monitor or intercept background typing in the shell.02
Press the Enhance shortcut
Press Cmd+Shift+E on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows. PromptDC captures the frontmost terminal app and selected text.03
PromptDC resolves the profile
A direct profile shortcut uses its assigned profile. Otherwise, an application default (such as the Code profile for your terminal) or the active profile supplies the instruction.04
Review the editable result
Terminal enhancement always opens the editable review popover, even when the general Show popover setting is off. Non-terminal targets may be replaced directly if configured.05
PromptDC detects the running CLI
PromptDC walks the terminal process tree, uses the deepest recognized CLI match, and selects a tool-specific target for Claude Code, Codex CLI, or Gemini CLI. Grok, Agy, and OpenCode use the generic coding target.06
Choose Replace or Copy
Edit the enhanced prompt in the popover if needed. Replace uses the platform sequence described below, pastes into the terminal input, and never presses Enter. Copy leaves the terminal untouched and copies to the clipboard.

Profile resolution and coding preferences
How profiles apply
- A direct profile shortcut uses its assigned profile.
- An application default selects one profile (e.g. Code for terminals and IDEs).
- Otherwise, PromptDC uses the active profile.
- Editing a built-in keeps it a built-in.
- Custom profiles and Actions are available with a subscription.
PromptDC includes built-in writing profiles (Grammar, Email, Social, Summarize, Professional, Image Prompt, Reply, Concise, Explain) and the Code profile for development. Each profile can have a global shortcut. If its accelerator is already taken, registration is skipped with a warning.
Global coding preferences
Per-application defaults select a profile for that app. Prompt format (Regular, JSON, XML, YAML), Simple or Structured output, and Always Include are Code profile preferences. Language remains global unless a user profile specifies one.
Enhancements started from the floating panel omit source-app context and Code-specific format, output structure, and instruction preferences.

Process-tree and multi-tab limitation
PromptDC walks the terminal or editor process tree and picks the deepest recognized CLI match. That confirms a matching process exists, but it does not prove the process belongs to the focused tab or pane. With several tabs open, PromptDC may identify a CLI running in a different tab.
