Enhance text and control replacement in any app, IDE & terminal
The PromptDC Desktop app for macOS and Windows is the flagship way to enhance text everywhere. One install works across every application and text field: all browsers (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox), desktop apps (Mail, Slack, Notion, Word, Outlook, Teams, Discord, Notes), AI desktop apps (ChatGPT desktop, Claude desktop, Grok), IDEs (Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity, Trae, Kiro and their AI chat panels), and terminal CLIs (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, OpenCode).
PromptDC is the first desktop app to enhance prompts inside terminal CLIs on both macOS and Windows. Press Cmd+Shift+E on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows to open an editable review popover, then choose Replace or Copy. With per-app default profiles, each application automatically uses the right profile (like the Code profile for Cursor and terminals, or Email for Mail).
For browser-only workflows, the Chrome extension provides in-place web field rewriting without Accessibility permissions, while optional IDE extensions offer dedicated sidebar controls for editor AI chat panels. If you want one setup that covers every textarea, terminal, and desktop app, PromptDC Desktop alone is all you need.

The desktop enhancement loop
01
Select the text to improve
Highlight the rough prompt or passage in any frontmost application — from email and document editors to IDE chat panels and terminal CLIs like Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy (Antigravity CLI), or OpenCode. You should see the application's normal selection highlight.02
Press the Enhance shortcut
PressCmd+Shift+Eon macOS orCtrl+Shift+Eon Windows. The editable review popover appears near your cursor. Terminal captures always open the popover. With review turned off in settings, non-terminal text is replaced silently. On macOS, grant Accessibility permission when prompted.03
Wait for review or replacement
The popover indicates the active profile (such as the Code profile for Cursor and terminals, or Email for Mail) while running, then displays the improved rewrite ready for review. With review off in settings, non-terminal text replaces silently without opening the popover.04
Review when the popover appears
Inspect the enhanced text and make any final edits directly inside the popover. Click Copy to preserve the original text on your clipboard, or choose Replace.05
Replace or confirm the result
Choose Replace to insert the enhanced result back into the active application. Inside terminal CLIs (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, OpenCode), Replace pastes the prompt safely into the shell without executing it.
How the active profile is chosen
Desktop
Chrome
- The Code profile is locked on a recognized coding host when you have created no custom profile.
- An explicit profile saved for the hostname.
- A profile whose default-sites list matches the host.
- The last-used profile on ordinary sites only.
- Grammar as the final fallback.
Use the toolbar profile picker when you want a different rewrite. Chrome has one general Enhance shortcut, and the selected or resolved profile is applied to that enhancement.
See the profiles guide for built-in and custom profiles, and app and website defaults for saved rules.
What changes on each surface
| Surface | Result | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop app (macOS & Windows) | The flagship app works in every app, browser, IDE, and terminal CLI. The review popover opens by default with Replace and Copy. Non-terminal replacement can be set to silent. | With review on, Replace updates the source selection. In terminal CLIs (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy, OpenCode), Replace pastes the prompt without pressing Enter. |
| Chrome, editable field | In-place rewriting for editable web fields without Accessibility permissions. The result popup offers Changes and Edit views with Accept. | The web field contains the edited result. If the page changed the field while you reviewed, PromptDC copies the result instead. |
| Chrome, read-only page | The result popup presents Copy because the page has no editable target. | Paste into a temporary field to confirm the clipboard contains the enhanced text. |
| VS Code and Cursor / Open VSX | Optional extensions: VS Code rewrites its AI chat input. Cursor and other Open VSX editors rewrite the current selection in the focused control. | VS Code leaves your source file untouched. In Cursor and Open VSX, keep the chat selection focused because a source-file selection can be rewritten. |
Chrome and editor procedures
Chrome procedure
- Click in an editable web field and select a passage, or select text on a read-only page. You should see the PromptDC toolbar near the selection.
- Choose a profile from the toolbar if the resolved profile is not right for this task, then press the Chrome shortcut. You should see an Enhancing state followed by the result popup.
- Use Changes to inspect the rewrite or Edit to revise it. Choose Accept for an editable field or Copy for a read-only page.
If the toolbar is missing, confirm the extension is enabled and the site is not disabled in PromptDC. See the Chrome guide for setup details.
Editor procedure
- Open the editor's AI chat panel and place the prompt in its input. In Cursor and other Open VSX editors, select the prompt and keep that control focused. A source-file selection can be rewritten instead.
- Choose the target and Simple or Structured output, then use the editor shortcut. Windsurf requires manual copy and paste, Antigravity starts from the clipboard, and Trae and Kiro use the generic selection-and-paste path.
- Review before submitting. VS Code leaves your source file untouched. In Cursor and other Open VSX editors, confirm the intended focused selection was replaced.
If nothing happens, focus the AI chat input and make sure terminal focus is not active (or use PromptDC Desktop directly in terminal CLIs). See the editor extensions guide for target-specific help.
