Modes: Writing and Coding
PromptDC enhances anything you type into AI through two modes. Coding mode turns vague developer prompts into precise, implementation-ready instructions for AI code generation. Writing mode is an AI writing assistant — it fixes grammar, rewrites emails, sharpens social posts, and improves any text, directly in the box where you type.
You do not switch modes manually most of the time. PromptDC picks the right one based on the website you are on, and you can override it from the toolbar when you want.
Coding mode
The original PromptDC coding prompt rewriter. It rewrites a rough request into a structured spec with scope, constraints, and expected output, optimized for AI code generation. On coding sites it is the default until you add custom profiles or per-website rules, and it applies the platform's matching system prompt automatically.

Writing mode
An AI writing assistant for everything else — a Grammarly alternative that works in any text box, including AI chats. It ships with nine built-in profiles (Grammar, Email, Social, Image Prompt, Summarize, Reply, Professional, Concise, Explain) and you can create your own.

How the active mode is chosen.
Resolution happens in order. The first rule that matches wins.
01. Coding site default
A recognized coding or AI-builder platform uses Coding mode while you have only built-in profiles and no per-website rule.
02. Per-website rule
If you customize profiles and set a default for this website, that profile is used. See per-website rules.
03. Last-used profile
Otherwise, the profile you most recently used is applied.
04. Grammar (safe default)
If nothing else matches, PromptDC uses the Grammar profile, which only fixes spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Which sites use Coding mode
Coding mode is the initial default on about 32 coding and AI-builder platforms, matched by hostname. Custom profiles and per-website rules can override that default. A sample:

What are the two modes in PromptDC?

How does PromptDC choose which mode to use on a page?
Recognized coding sites default to Coding mode until you add custom profiles or per-website rules. After that, an explicit rule or saved choice can override the coding default. Other sites use a per-website rule if one exists, then the last-used profile, then Grammar as the safe default.
Can I switch modes manually?
Yes. The enhance button on the floating toolbar has a caret that opens a switcher with every built-in mode and your own profiles. On coding sites with only built-in profiles, the switch lasts for the session and resets to Coding mode on reload. Once you add a custom profile or per-website rule, PromptDC can remember your site choice.
Does Writing mode change anything about coding?
No. Coding mode is the original coding prompt rewriter, unchanged. Writing mode is additive — it only applies on non-coding sites or when you pick a writing profile manually.
