The Developer Experience in the Windsurf IDE — From IDE to Terminal

The Windsurf IDE is an AI-focused code editor that aims to redefine the developer workflow. Unlike traditional IDEs that add AI as a feature, Windsurf is built from the ground up with AI at its core.

Working in the Windsurf IDE

The experience of using the Windsurf IDE is centered around collaboration with an AI partner. Success in this environment depends on the developer's ability to provide clear, high-level direction to the AI.

Mastering AI Communication in Windsurf with PromptDC

PromptDC helps you master the art of AI communication, which is essential for being productive in the Windsurf IDE. Use our tool to structure your coding goals and instructions into clear prompts that will guide your AI partner effectively.

Cover both Windsurf input areas

Inside Windsurf, the PromptDC IDE extension is suited to requests written in the AI chat area. The integrated terminal is a separate surface, so prompts for a CLI there should be selected and enhanced with PromptDC Desktop. The same desktop shortcut continues to work when you leave Windsurf for another app.

One desktop app for Windsurf and every terminal

The PromptDC desktop app for macOS and Windows enhances selected text in Windsurf, every browser, IDE chat panel, desktop AI app and terminal. Use Cmd+Shift+E or Ctrl+Shift+E to open an editable review, then Replace or Copy.

PromptDC is the first desktop app to enhance prompts inside terminal CLIs, including Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Grok, Agy and OpenCode. Choose the Code profile for implementation-ready prompts, and set it as the default profile for each coding app or terminal.

The Chrome extension and IDE extensions are optional. Chrome adds in-place rewriting without Accessibility permission, while IDE extensions add a target-agent picker and Simple or Structured output; the desktop app already covers browser fields, IDE chats and terminals.
